Villa Tiboldi

In the heart of the Langhe hills, lies the Villa Tiboldi, a stunning hillside retreat in the Piedmontese countryside. This country house hotel is spread across three buildings: an 18th-century manor house, a cleverly-converted barn and a former tenant farmer’s cottage. The hotel is surrounded by fields of vines in every direction giving guests the sense of being right at the heart of the Roero wine country. The hotel is owned by the Damonte family, who also own the Malvirà Winery.

Built as a farmhouse in the 1700s, by the early 1900s it was the vacation home of a wealthy Genovese family. After that, it was abandoned and fell into disrepair until it was purchased by the Damonte family in 1995. They began a multi-year renovation which finished in 2003.

Inside, the hotel is elegantly rustic in style with traditional Ligurian elements such as intricate floral detailing on the ceilings throughout. With just ten rooms and such a tranquil location, the hotel has an intimate atmosphere and each of the rooms is individually decorated, some rustic and homely, others more regal or contemporary. The attention to detail is high, and the traditional styling is complemented by all modern conveniences.

The outdoor swimming pool overlooks the hills of Roara and is the perfect place to relax. It's open from May to October, and is reserved for guests.

The restaurant serves a range of local dishes made using ingredients from the surrounding farms. Guests can dine inside in the bright dining room or outdoors in the garden. A shaded terrace overlooks the outdoor pool and the vineyards beyond, while the owners’ Malvirà Winery is nearby. Guests are invited to tour the winery, learn about its history and sample some of its wines.

Malvirà, a passion for wine for three generations.

When Giuseppe Damonte started to produce wine in the 50s in the winery of his family, he had a dream: to bottle the soul of the land that he loved, to be discovered sip by sip.
In the mid Seventies the company was renamed Malvirà, after the name of the old 19th century building located in the centre of Canale that became the headquarter of the winery.

This peculiar name refers to the exposure of the courtyard, which unusually faced North, instead of South, as was the rural tradition.

In 1989 the Malvirà Winery was moved to the current location at the foot of the S.S. Trinità vineyard and enlarged in the following years, to adapt to the company needs.

Massimo and Roberto, the second generation, inherited from their father a production philosophy that makes Roero the greatest inspiration: Malvirà offers expressive and refined wines, capable of conveying true emotions.
