An unforgettable culinary cycling adventure in one of Italy’s most undiscovered regions.
If you're dreaming of a cycling tour in Southern Italy that blends gourmet cuisine, quiet backroads, and deep cultural roots, a cycling tour in Calabria delivers an experience like no other. This past season, we hosted a Chef Bike Tour in the region, and it was nothing short of extraordinary.
Why Choose a Cycling Tour in Calabria, Italy?
Calabria is one of the least explored regions for cycling in Italy, and that’s exactly what makes it so special. Unlike more trafficked destinations like Tuscany or the Dolomites, Calabria offers rugged beauty, quiet inland roads, and traditional villages where life moves at its own pace.
This region is ideal for:
-
Adventure cyclists craving a raw, authentic experience
-
Food lovers drawn to spicy ‘nduja, fresh seafood, and homemade pasta
-
Travelers seeking real cultural connections without the crowds
Inside Our Chef Bike Tour in Calabria with Mary Sue Milliken
What made this gourmet cycling tour even more memorable was the return of celebrity chef Mary Sue Milliken, joining us for the eighth time. As always, our Chef Bike Tours blend daily rides with curated culinary experiences. In Calabria, this meant:
-
Tasting hand-rolled fileja pasta
-
Sampling local wines and seafood by the coast
-
Exploring family-run agriturismos and traditional kitchens
Most of our participants were returning guests, turning the trip into a kind of joyful reunion on two wheels. One four-legged surprise? Our dog Rocky came along, joining us for hikes and dips in the sea!
A Personal Homecoming in Gasperina
For me, this was more than a cycling tour, it was a homecoming. We visited Gasperina, the hilltop village where my grandmother was born. Sharing this deeply personal place with our guests, through food, storytelling, and laughter, was one of the most moving moments I've had on tour since I founded Tourissimo in 2015.
In front of the house with my grandmother grew up.
