Have you ever heard that along the Amalfi Coast there is the so-called "Path of Gods?"

And what if I told you that you can go along this path?

Path of the Gods Amalfi Coast

The Path of the Gods, or “Sentiero degli Dei” in Italian, is a gorgeous clifftop trail running between Bomerano (in Agerola) and Nocelle (near Positano) along the famous Amalfi Coast.

Its name ‘Path of the gods’ comes from its mythological roots in the tale of the Odyssey. According to the legend, the gods once rushed to Ulysses from the sirens of Capri and mapped out this path in the process.

According to history, the Path once acted as the only means of communication between some of the Amalfi Coast's villages.

The trail averages at about 1640 feet (500mt) above sea level and the main section of the hike is about 5 miles (8km) long.

The Path of the Gods is the most beautiful hiking trail on the stunning Amalfi Coast.

Its name probably says it all - locals consider the scenery worthy of the gods and, if you’ll ever walk the path, you’ll easily understand why the gods may have chosen it to visit.

Indeed, this trail gives you access to some of the most spectacular scenery in the area; you get to soak up absolutely breathtaking views!

As you hike, you can enjoy unparalleled views of the nicest stretch of the Amalfi Coast right in front of you. You can see spectacular bays and coastline, as well as the town of Praiano and Punta Campanella below.

During the entire hike, you can also see Positano, several small islands, and the island of Capri in the distance.

The scenery along the Path of the Gods is quite varied: from rocky walls, interesting caves and rock formations, to historic ruins (some as old as 11-12th century), farming lands, or steep cliffsides - there's always something nice to see along the way.

You can also meet some locals who live along the Path of the Gods.

Farmers grow vines on terraces carved into the hillside and still use donkeys for transport along the narrow pathways.

Walking here gives you a glimpse into a more authentic side of the Amalfi Coast than what you see by the coast, in the main towns.

The Path of the Gods provides not only some of the best views of the Amalfi Coast but also a way to escape from the crowds and experience this spectacular coast from above. The Path of Gods is a perfect way to spend the day exploring and experience the beauty of this area.

The journey will lead you through historic towns, along ancient routes, and will stop you in your tracks with its breathtaking views across the whole region.

When is it best to walk The Path of the Gods?

Spring (April and May) and autumn (September and October) are the best times to hike the Path of the Gods. Spring is especially lovely as the wildflowers are in bloom. These are also the times of the year when we bring groups there.

The Path of the Gods is a must-do when on the Amalfi Coast, a gorgeous hike past towering limestone mountains, colourful wildflowers, and ancient abandoned stone houses…but also the perfect way to offset all the pasta, gelato and delizie al limone that you are going to taste during your stay.

Every time I hike on the Sentiero degli Dei, I feel both proud of myself for my accomplishment and thankful for the opportunity to accomplish it.
